LFP2 Projectlfp2

Next Meeting: Fall 2008

The purpose of LFP2 (Lithology and Fluid Prediction - Phase 2) is to deliver science, methodology, and workflows for practical integration of well and seismic data leading to improved quantitative interpretation of reservoir properties between wells. The project is focused on three main areas of development:

Rock Physics Applications to QI

  • Focus on Carbonates, Shales and Laminated sands
  • Probabilistic Rock Physics
  • Rock Physics Upscaling

Seismic Modeling

  • Attenuation effects
  • Anisotropy
  • Multiples

Well-Seismic Integration and Calibration

  • Pre-stack well-tie
  • Deviated well-tie
  • Probabilistic well-seismic calibration and inversion

LFP2 Meetings

Sponsor meetings are held twice per year, usually in Houston, TX and are scheduled for one day.  The spring meeting provides an opportunity for sponsors to express their opinions of the research plans for the year, and take delivery of any new software updates and other technical documents produced since the fall meeting.  The main annual meeting occurs in the fall, usually around SEG week to accommodate sponsors from outside the USA.  During the fall meeting we distribute a bound technical volume, new major software releases, technical workflows and training documents, etc.

Typical deliverables for each meeting are shown below, but vary depending on recent activity in the three focus areas.

  • Bibliography on carbonate rock physics
  • Bibliography on model-based inversion
  • Proceedings of the meeting
  • Documented workflows for attenuation log modeling and estimating attenuation from seismic data
  • Documented iMOSS workflows and example projects for rock physics diagnostics in clastics
  • Documented iMOSS projects for rock pseudo-well modeling in clastics
  • Latest software releases of iMOSS and Attrib3D
  • iMOSS release supplement with documented example projects and workflows
